For over 20 years, dealerships across the nation have participated in the Mercedes-Benz Championships, a series of amateur golf tournaments held in support of various charities. As a long-time supporter of many charitable causes, Mercedes-Benz of El Dorado Hills is proud to participate in this philanthropic tradition. And for the 2017 Mercedes-Benz Championships, we’re pledging our support to JDRF, a type 1 diabetes research group. Read on to learn more about what they do and why it’s so important to donate to their cause.

What is JDRF?

JDRF is a global organization with one main goal—creating a world without type 1 diabetes. This autoimmune disease afflicts children and adults alike, regardless of diet or lifestyle, and can strike without warning. It prevents the pancreas from creating insulin, an important hormone that helps your body get energy from food. Luckily, it can be treated with diligent blood sugar monitoring and insulin shots, but there is no known cure, so a diagnosis can result in significant lifestyle changes and increased risk of complications like kidney failure.

The JDRF mission statement is to help create a world where children can live without fear of this sudden and difficult disease. That’s why it’s the leading global organization in funding type 1 diabetes research, and a constant advocate for government research and testing for new therapies. It’s a mission statement that Mercedes-Benz of El Dorado Hills fully believes in, which is why we’re enthusiastically donating the proceeds from the 2017 Mercedes-Benz Championships to this noble organization.
