2020 GLS Towing Capacities

You Could Say It is the Most Versatile SUV

Have you ever thought of the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLS as a vehicle capable of towing heavy loads? Well, think again, because the 2020 GLS is equipped with the 4MATIC® fully variable all-wheel drive system, developed by Mercedes-Benz engineers. The system engages all four wheels and distributes additional torque when you lose gripping or performance in unfavorable conditions. This means that even if only one wheel or one axle has a grip in less-than-perfect conditions, you will still get traction.

This is one reason why towing is enjoyable with the 2020 GLS as it is with other rear-wheel and four-wheel drive vehicles. If you have not driven the 2020 GLS, you’ll be in for a pleasant surprise. Come in and test-drive the new 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLS at Mercedes-Benz of El Dorado Hills today.

Towing Capacity Isn’t Always About Horsepower

Most rear-wheel drive vehicles have a higher towing capacity than four-wheel drive vehicles. This due mainly to four-wheel drives being heavier. Obviously, this can reduce the amount it can tow. Not the case with the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLS. At a curb weight of just 5,390-lbs, its towing capacity is 7,700 lbs., with an optional Class IV trailer hitch, which is great for towing your favorite Airstream or a trailer full of ATVs.

With several factors determining a vehicle’s towing capacity, such as horsepower, torque, frame design, engine size and more, the GLS 450’s 3.0 inline turbo 6 with EQ Boost delivers 362-hp @ 5500-6100 rpm and 369-hp. @ 1600-4500. In comparison, the GLS 580, with a 4.0 V8 biturbo with EQ Boost, delivers 483-hp. @ 5500 rpm and 516 lb.-ft. of torque at 2000-4000 rpm.

And For An Extra Boost …

Offering an optional Off-Road Package the Mercedes-Benz GLS gets additional traction in rough terrain with rocks, sand and mud. With each of the Off-road programs, ride height and negotiating depth increases, while also providing specific settings for the suspension, automatic level control, Downhill Speed Regulation (DSR), and 2-speed transfer case whose low range is useful during off-road driving. Because of the GLS all-wheel drive system there is no wheel spin, especially while in sand. The 4MATIC® electronics system has taken care of that.

Paddle Your Way to the Next Gear

The Mercedes-Benz GLS 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission offers shift paddles, giving you the luxury to changing gears ever so smoothly and quickly. Basically, with a greater range of ratios and noticeably shorter steps between gears, you get a seamless delivery of power. The benefit of this is a lighter and more versatile transmission. As a result, you also get a quieter cabin and increased fuel-efficiency. You will enjoy being able to control all your gear changes using the electronic selector and shift paddles from your steering wheel. By using the DYNAMIC SELECT system, you can vary the shift modes.
