Overview

The 2008 Mercedes-Benz M-Class is a sport utility vehicle that's ideal for the family. This all-weather SUV has muscular, wedge-shaped design cues and luxurious interiors. For 2008, the ML550 replaces the ML500 with AMG styling, deep front and rear aprons, 19-inch AMG wheels, and running boards. The five-passenger SUV is available in four versions: the ML350 SUV, ML320 CDI SUV, ML550 SUV and the ML63 AMG. The M-Class offers a basic warranty of 48 months/50,000 miles.

Power and Performance

Four engines are available. The ML350 has a 3.5-liter V-6 that develops 268 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque; the ML550 has a V-8 engine that delivers 382 horsepower and 391 pound-feet of torque; the ML63 AMG gets a 6.3-liter V-8 that pumps out 503 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque; and the ML320 has a diesel engine that produces 215 horsepower and 398 pound-feet of torque. All engines team up with a seven-speed automatic transmission with TouchShift manual controls. An M-Class SUV can tow up to 5,000 pounds when properly equipped. EPA fuel economy is rated at 11-18 mpg in the city and 14-24 mpg on the highway.

Body and Styling

The Mercedes-Benz M-Class is streamlined and aerodynamic. It possesses a swept-back windshield and front fender design and an aggressive wedge shaped strapping build. A prominent rear spoiler and dual exhaust notes bring up the rear. The elegant interior displays attention to form and function with its sport-oriented instrument panel and multifunction steering wheel. It is uncluttered and roomy with plenty of head and legroom for tall passengers. A 60/40-split rear seat increases cargo space and creates a flat load surface when folded.

Safety Features

Standard safety features include side curtain air bags with rollover sensors, side-impact air bags, an electronic stability system, and anti-lock brakes with brake assistance.
