Overview

The new 2008 C-Class offers improved performance, more standard features, and refined styling in a reasonably priced package. The 2008 redesign gives the car a slightly longer wheelbase and overall length. It accommodates four or five occupants, and has more interior room than before. Three models are offered: the C300 Luxury, C300 Sport and the C350 Sport. The C-Class has a basic warranty of 48 months/50,000 miles. All C-Class cars offer great steering and quick-on-the-uptake brakes. The Luxury models offer a traditional Benz-like ride quality while the Sport models are nimble and tautly sprung.

Power and Performance

The C300 Luxury and C300 Sport are equipped with a 228-horsepower, 3.0-liter V-6. The C350 Sport receives a 268-horsepower, 3.5-liter V-6. The C300 is available with a six-speed manual or Mercedes' seven-speed automatic transmission, while the C350 comes only with the automatic. All automatic versions include a manual shift mode. C300 models with automatic transmission can run on E85, a mixture of 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline, and are available with 4Matic all-wheel drive. Sport models receive a sport-tuned suspension and unique styling. Fuel economy with the six-speed manual is 18/26 mpg (city/highway); and 18/25 mpg (city/highway) with the seven-speed automatic.

Body and Styling

The C-Class with its refined styling epitomizes everything that is the 'classic' Benz - a distinctive aura of class, luxury and elegance, but with sporty, all-new styling. Exterior contours have the same silhouette as the larger E-Class, displaying compact and aerodynamic lines. The Sport sedans have an aggressive demeanor, a crisp front air dam, lower cladding and sport-tuned suspension. The C-Class has refined and smart interiors. Luxury models are conservative and plush with upscale levels of accommodation and amenities.

Safety Features

Safety features include seven air bags, seat belt tensioners and force limiters, head restraints, anti-lock braking, traction control, brake assistance, electronic brake-force distribution, electronic stability program and an adaptive brake system. The Mercedes Benz C-Class scored four out of five stars for driver and front-passenger protection in frontal impacts, and five stars for front and rear side-impact protection in government crash tests.
